Answering Islam - A Christian-Muslim dialog

Is Muhammad Prophesied in the Song of Solomon? Pt. 2

Or

Whose theology is more in line with Solomon’s?

Sam Shamoun

We continue from where we left off.

Did Muhammad preach these same doctrines?

Now in order for Muhammad to be a true prophet whose coming was announced by the Biblical prophets such as Solomon he must agree with the theology found in the very writings which Muslims are always turning to, namely, the Old and New Testament Scriptures. Yet this is where the problem begins since Muhammad denied that his deity is a spiritual father who has spiritual offspring, arguing that the only way for Allah to have an actual son is through sexual procreation, which is an act that Allah does not engage in:

Say the Jews and Christians, 'We are the sons of God, and His beloved ones.' Say: 'Why then does He chastise you for your sins? No; you are mortals, of His creating; He forgives whom He will, and He chastises whom He will.' For to God belongs the kingdom of the heavens and of the earth, and all that is between them; to Him is the homecoming. S. 5:18

The Creator of the heavens and the earth -- how should He have a son, seeing that He has no consort, and He created all things, and He has knowledge of everything? S. 6:101

According to Muhammad, everyone comes to Allah only as a slave, no more no less and no better:

And they say, 'The All-merciful has taken unto Himself a son.’ You have indeed advanced something hideous! The heavens are wellnigh rent of it and the earth split asunder, and the mountains wellnigh fall down crashing for that they have attributed to the All-merciful a son; and it behoves not the All-merciful to take a son. None is there in the heavens and earth but he comes to the All-merciful as a servant; S. 19:88-93 Arbery

They say: 'The All-merciful has taken to Him a son.' Glory be to Him! Nay, but they are honoured servants. S. 21:26 Arberry

Nor did Muhammad ever bother to build a house for God to dwell in, one in which priests would offer up vicarious sacrifices for the forgiveness of sins.

As such, Muhammad could not have been prophesied by name, that is unless a Muslim wants to argue that Muhammad’s message got corrupted sometime after his death. The only way for Muhammad to have been announced in the Scriptures of the prophets such as Solomon is if Muslims are willing to accept the fact that the Quran does not accurately reflect the teachings of the historical Muhammad. The Quran must have been changed by corrupt and unscrupulous scribes who didn’t like the fact that Muhammad taught the same essential truths as the Biblical prophets did, such as God being a spiritual father to his people, especially the kings of Israel, with Israel’s rulers being granted the honor of sitting on God’s earthly throne as his earthly representatives. These scribes, therefore, decided to delete all such references from the Quran and added passages which expressly deny such ideas.

Seeing that no Muslim would be willing to accept this idea of the Muslim scripture being tampered with, then they need to abandon this futile attempt of using the Holy Bible to prove that Muhammad was a true prophet when God’s Word condemns him as a false prophet and antichrist who denied many of the core essential doctrines which God revealed through his prophets and apostles.

What about the theology of the Lord Jesus Christ and his followers?

This brings me to my next point. Unlike Muhammad, both the Lord Jesus and his disciples proclaimed the very same message that prophets like Solomon did.

For instance, like Solomon, Jesus is God’s beloved Son who sits on God’s throne, with the difference being that Christ is actually seated on the throne that is in heaven itself!

“Immediately coming up out of the water, He saw the heavens opening, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon Him; and a voice came out of the heavens: ‘You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased.’” Mark 1:10-11

“Six days later, Jesus took with Him Peter and James and John, and brought them up on a high mountain by themselves. And He was transfigured before them; and His garments became radiant and exceedingly white, as no launderer on earth can whiten them. Elijah appeared to them along with Moses; and they were talking with Jesus. Peter said to Jesus, ‘Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; let us make three tabernacles, one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.’ For he did not know what to answer; for they became terrified. Then a cloud formed, overshadowing them, and a voice came out of the cloud, ‘This is My beloved Son, listen to Him!’” Mark 9:2-7

And as God’s Son, Jesus is the Heir who is given all the nations (in fact, the entire creation itself) as his rightful possession:

“And He began to speak to them in parables: ‘A man planted a vineyard and put a wall around it, and dug a vat under the wine press and built a tower, and rented it out to vine-growers and went on a journey. At the harvest time he sent a slave to the vine-growers, in order to receive some of the produce of the vineyard from the vine-growers. They took him, and beat him and sent him away empty-handed. Again he sent them another slave, and they wounded him in the head, and treated him shamefully. And he sent another, and that one they killed; and so with many others, beating some and killing others. He had one more to send, a beloved son; he sent him last of all to them, saying, “They will respect my son.” But those vine-growers said to one another, “This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours!” They took him, and killed him and threw him out of the vineyard.’” Mark 12:1-8

The Father loves the Son and has given all things into His hands.” John 3:35

“For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son… He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and FOR HIM. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything.” Colossians 1:13, 15-18

Christ is also the Son who does only what the Father does and commands in order to perfectly represent and express God’s character to others:

“Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner. For the Father loves the Son and shows Him all things that He Himself is doing; and the Father will show Him greater works than these, so that you will marvel. I can do nothing on My own initiative. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is just, because I do not seek My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.’” John 5:19-20, 30

“do you say of Him, whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, ‘You are blaspheming,’ because I said, ‘I am the Son of God’? If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me; but if I do them, though you do not believe Me, believe the works, so that you may know and understand that the Father is in Me, and I in the Father.” John 10:36-38

“And Jesus cried out and said, ‘He who believes in Me, does not believe in Me but in Him who sent Me. He who sees Me sees the One who sent Me.’” John 12:44-45

“‘If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; from now on you know Him, and have seen Him.’ Philip said to Him, ‘Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how can you say, “Show us the Father”? Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own initiative, but the Father abiding in Me does His works. Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me; otherwise believe because of the works themselves.’” John 14:7-11

And not only does Jesus glorify God by perfectly representing him, but God also glorifies him so others may believe that he is the Son whom the Father has loved from before the creation of the world, the very One who actually existed with the Father in the same glory even before the world came into being:

“Jesus spoke these things; and lifting up His eyes to heaven, He said, ‘Father, the hour has come; glorify Your Son, that the Son may glorify You, even as You gave Him authority over all flesh, that to all whom You have given Him, He may give eternal life. This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent… Now, Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was… Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.’” John 17:1-3, 5, 24

And like Solomon, Christ is God’s Agent of peace and rest to all that believe. Yet, whereas Solomon granted Israel safety from their physical enemies, Christ grants his followers deliverance from sin and Satan, as well as saving them from God’s wrath which shall be poured out upon the disbelievers. And much like Solomon, Jesus has built a house for God, albeit a spiritual one consisting of all believers in whom God lives by his Spirit:

“She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”” Matthew 1:21

“The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, ‘Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!’” John 1:29

“and they were saying to the woman, ‘It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves and know that this One is indeed the Savior of the world.’” John 4:42

Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.” John 14:27

“These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.”” John 16:33

“Therefore remember that formerly you, the Gentiles in the flesh, who are called ‘Uncircumcision’ by the so-called ‘Circumcision,’ which is performed in the flesh by human hands—remember that you were at that time separate from Christ, excluded from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who formerly were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall, by abolishing in His flesh the enmity, which is the Law of commandments contained in ordinances, so that in Himself He might make the two into one new man, thus establishing peace, and might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, by it having put to death the enmity. And He came and preached peace to you who were far away, and peace to those who were near; for THROUGH HIM we both have our access in one Spirit to the Father. So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God’s HOUSEHOLD, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone, in whom the whole BUILDING, being fitted together, is growing into A HOLY TEMPLE IN THE LORD, in whom you also are being built together into A DWELLING PLACE OF GOD in the Spirit.” Ephesians 2:11-22 – cf. 1 Corinthians 3:16-17; 6:19-20

“For they themselves report about us what kind of a reception we had with you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve a living and true God, and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, that is Jesus, who rescues us from the wrath to come.” 1 Thessalonians 1:9-10

“For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with Him.” 1 Thessalonians 5:9-10

"but in case I am delayed, I write so that you will know how one ought to conduct himself in the HOUSEHOLD of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and support of the truth." 1 Timothy 3:15

"Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest of our confession; He was faithful to Him who appointed Him, as Moses also was in all His house. For he has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, just as much as the builder of the house has more honor than the house. For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God. Now Moses was faithful in all His house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken later; but Christ was faithful as a Son over His house-whose house WE ARE, if we hold fast our confidence and the boast of our hope firm until the end." Hebrews 3:1-6

And also like Solomon, Christ offered up sacrifices in order to atone for the sins committed by his people. Yet the sacrifices which he offered was himself on the cross, which he then presented to the Father within the heavenly tabernacle/temple:

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45 – Matthew 20:28

“for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins.” Matthew 26:28 – cf. Mark 14:24

in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. For it was the Father’s good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him, and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven. And although you were formerly alienated and hostile in mind, engaged in evil deeds, yet He has now reconciled you in His fleshly body through death, in order to present you before Him holy and blameless and beyond reproach—if indeed you continue in the faith firmly established and steadfast, and not moved away from the hope of the gospel that you have heard, which was proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, was made a minister.” Colossians 1:14, 19-23

“The former priests, on the one hand, existed in greater numbers because they were prevented by death from continuing, but Jesus, on the other hand, because He continues forever, holds His priesthood permanently. Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. For it was fitting for us to have such a high priest, holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners and exalted above the heavens; who does not need daily, like those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the sins of the people, because this He did once for all when He offered up Himself. For the Law appoints men as high priests who are weak, but the word of the oath, which came after the Law, appoints a Son, made perfect forever.” Hebrews 7:23-28

“And according to the Law, one may almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. Therefore it was necessary for the copies of the things in the heavens to be cleansed with these, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. For Christ did not enter a holy place made with hands, a mere copy of the true one, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us; nor was it that He would offer Himself often, as the high priest enters the holy place year by year with blood that is not his own. Otherwise, He would have needed to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now once at the consummation of the ages He has been manifested to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment, so Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time for salvation without reference to sin, to those who eagerly await Him.” Hebrews 9:22-28

And just like Solomon was highly exalted in all the earth, Christ has been highly exalted above all creation so that every creature may come to acknowledge and worship him as Lord:

“and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might which He brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.” Ephesians 1:19-23

Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:9-11 New King James Version (NKJV)

The NT writings even go as far as to say that Jesus is the Son whom God raised up for David so as to sit on David’s throne forever in order to fulfill all of the promises which God made to his honored servant:

“Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city in Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the descendants of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary. And coming in, he said to her, “Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you.’ But she was very perplexed at this statement, and kept pondering what kind of salutation this was. The angel said to her, ‘Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David; and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end.’ Mary said to the angel, ‘How can this be, since I am a virgin?’ The angel answered and said to her, ‘The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy Child shall be called the Son of God.’” Luke 1:26-35

This explains why OT passages which speak of God’s promises to David and Solomon are applied to Christ, since he is the One who ends up fulfilling all the things which God had sworn to do for David and his descendants:

“God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become so much better than the angels, as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. For to which of the angels did He ever say: ‘You are My Son, Today I have begotten You’? And again: ‘I will be to Him a Father, And He shall be to Me a Son’? But when He again brings THE FIRSTBORN into the world, He says: ‘Let all the angels of God worship Him.’ And of the angels He says: ‘Who makes His angels spirits And His ministers a flame of fire.’ But to the Son He says: ‘Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; A scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You With the oil of gladness more than Your companions.’… But to which of the angels has He ever said: ‘Sit at My right hand, Till I make Your enemies Your footstool’? Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation?” Hebrews 1:1-5, 8-9, 13-14 NKJV

And yet, as can be seen from some of these statements, Jesus is much more than a mere human descendant of David. He is also the preexistent Son of God and the divine Agent of creation for whom all things exist, and to whom every person must surrender and offer worship.

Hence, it is not Muhammad whom the prophets spoke of, but of God’s blessed and glorious Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, just as he himself and his disciples taught:

“Turning to the disciples, He said privately, ‘Blessed are the eyes which see the things you see, for I say to you, that many prophets and kings wished to see the things which you see, and did not see them, and to hear the things which you hear, and did not hear them.’” Luke 10:23-24 – cf. 24:25-27, 44-47; Matthew 13:16-17; 1 Peter 1:10-12

“You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me; and you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life… Do not think that I will accuse you before the Father; the one who accuses you is Moses, in whom you have set your hope. For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me, for he wrote about Me. But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?” John 5:39-40, 45-47

“Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord; and that He may send Jesus, the Christ appointed for you, whom heaven must receive until the period of restoration of all things about which God spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from ancient time. Moses said, ‘The Lord God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your brethren; to Him you shall give heed to everything He says to you. And it will be that every soul that does not heed that prophet shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.’ And likewise, all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and his successors onward, also announced these days. It is you who are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant which God made with your fathers, saying to Abraham, ‘And in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed.’ For you first, God raised up His Servant and sent Him to bless you by turning every one of you from your wicked ways.” Acts 3:19-26

“The word which He sent to the sons of Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ (He is Lord of all)… And He ordered us to preach to the people, and solemnly to testify that this is the One who has been appointed by God as Judge of the living and the dead. Of Him all the prophets bear witness that through His name everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins.” Acts 10:36, 42-43

It is, therefore, time for Muslims to stop twisting the Holy Bible in order to try to find prophecies of Muhammad, especially in a book like Song of Solomon! What they should instead do is to accept the message of the Holy Bible and turn to Christ as their risen Lord and Savior since this is their only hope of salvation.
